INSTRUMENTAL VOICES

The third release from our exclusive little label is a collection of instrumentals containing "vocal soundscapes". Only one track contains any singing, all others are mood creating, soft easy/lounge tunes from the 60's and 70's. At the lounge we don't really go in for singing that much, we would much rather be swept away by some soaring strings or groove to some funky Latin rhythms. This is essentially an instrumental collection but with vocal harmonies used as "instruments" to enhance the mood. As usual this is supplied with high-resolution custon artwork (including disc label)

LOVE your blog, but having trouble downloading this one; it downloads from Rapidshare as a Firefox document. Am I doing something wrong? I'd love to hear this collection!

@Magnum - I'm not sure what's going on at your end :)

It should be a "rar" file, which needs needs WinRar (or similar) to unpack it.

Isn't there a spelling error on the cover artwork?

Hi The Hortons,

I appreciate the very kind words, and am glad you like the albums.

Most of the tracks on these albums are from library albums originally, although these selections were taken from a multitude of compilations on cd.
If you're not familiar with library albums, they were "mood music" releases only available to professionals for use in TV & Film (to save the cost of hiring a specific composer) which were hired on a track-by-track basis.

The bulk of these tracks were taken from 60's & 70's albums from the kpm, Amphonic, DeWolfe, Chappell, Apollo libraries. Tracks were given very descriptive names to help them standout when producers were looking for a certain type of sound for a film, tv show, commercial etc.
Library Music (aka Production Music, Mood Music) was mainly a British/European thing as most of the American shows could afford to hire a composer, whereas a lot of British and European shows had much smaller budgets and made use of library tracks ("The Sweeney" in the UK is a good example).

If you're looking to explore more of this you can find literally hundreds of library albums available to download on various music blogs (check out some of the links on my main page sidebar under other lounge pads). Unfortunately you may have to search through a lot of filler to find more killer tracks like these though, most of these selections were made for mood creation rather than standalone listening so can be a little "boring" at times.

Happy searching/listening!

This series was originally intended to be an ongoing collection but as is usual with me, I got distracted (again) and went off starting other projects. I may come back this at some point, or I may just ditch it and revamp the set. As was pointed out earlier, there is a pretty big typo on this cover which needs sorting out (I have no idea how I missed it!)

Hi,

I'm a big fan of your work. I enjoy all the Crime-Lounge Records and the Crime Jazz Volumes, which I listen to regularly. Will there be any more volumes? I would love to see this series continue, as it is really my kind of music.
All the best and thank you!

Hi Cali,

I'm glad you're enjoying the various series' I've put together, it's what makes it all worthwhile.

As you can probably see from the comments above, I'm very slow at getting things done sometimes. I always intended both this and the Crime Jazz series to be ongoing sets with volumes added at regular intervals, but a lack of new material and enthusiasm has seen them both stagnate.

I don't think I can commit to both of them so will probably just continue with one (most likely the Crime Jazz) and will either just leave these as they are or may replace them with something along similar lines.

I have been working on a couple of other "private" projects recently which are continuations of some well-known official series of comps that the respective labels have ditched!

I've been painstakingly re-creating the cover designs to replicate the look of the original sets and that has taken up all my time and energy :)

I won't say what they are as I'm not sure if they will ever be featured here at The Crime Lounge. They were originally just for my own enjoyment as I was a massive fan of the original collections and wanted to see them continue.
All I'll say at the moment is that they are both well-known "easy" collections and are pretty much the same style of music as featured here in these comps. In fact, a lot of the tracks are duplicated on these so apart from the covers you aren't missing much :)

The Crime Lounge as a whole has been very quiet over the last several months. I tend to get bored with things quickly and go off and start something new, I'm sure I'll get the Crime Lounge blogging bug back at some point and launch back into it 150% but for now it's semi-retired :(

Stay tuned for future developments.

and thanks again for the kind words :)

Many thanks for these wonderful collections. Not just great music - but your artistic flair is second to none. Would love to see further 'albums' in this series on the future.
Best wishes from London.
